Helensburgh Upland Way
This a short walk of about 2 miles and takes roughly 1.5 hours. The panoramic
view at the end of Blackhill plantation extends over the Firth of Clyde and
Gareloch to the Rosneath Peninsular and, further West, Cowal. On a clear day it
is easy to see the hills of Arran on the western skyline! The large boulder near
the Highlandman's Rock is pock marked with enigmatic "cup marks"; shallow
indentations approximately 1" - 2" in diameter. These are man made and date from
the bronze age; their exact meaning remains a mystery - unlike the more recent
stone carving on the boulder!! Highlandman's road is an ancient hill track
leading from Glen Fruin to the north, down to Rhu.
