Local Walks

Helensburgh is just on the "Lowland" side of the Highland/Lowland fault line which traverses Loch Lomond from North East to South West whereas Rhu - attached to the North of Helensburgh is on the "Highland " side.  I think of Helensburgh as the last vestige of civilisation until you reach either Oban to the North West or Fort William to the North. In between are the most stunning areas of natural beauty - with scattered population and your opportunity to really get away from it all!  But I digress, this page is concerned with walks within about 20 miles only.

Helensburgh Upland Way  * A short ramble through woods and along forest tracks from Helensburgh to Rhu, with extensive views over the Firth of Clyde.

Balloch Castle Country Park  * A short walk around this popular country park on the shores of Loch Lomond.  The route is mostly suitable for wheelchairs, there are also many other paths and a walled garden to explore and open space to enjoy.

Stoneymollen Trail  * An exhilarating walk from Cardross on the Firth of Clyde to Balloch on Loch Lomondside, with superb views on a clear day.

Rosneath Point  * A circular walk around Rosneath Point, between Kilcreggan on the Firth of Clyde and Rosneath Bay on the Gare Loch.

Firkin Point, Loch Lomond  * Short walks along the West side of Loch Lomond.  The walks make use of the old A82 road and are ideally suited to wheelchairs and pushchairs.
