The Trossachs

From the A82, follow signs for Balloch and the A811. Continue on the A811, passing through the village of Gartocharn, to a T junction just before the curved stone bridge over the Endrick Water. Turn left at the junction, remaining on the A811 until reaching the junction with the A81 at Ballat Crossroads where a left turn takes the traveller to Aberfoyle on the A81.

Once in Aberfoyle, visit the Sheep & Wool Centre to be entertained by Fergus Wood and absorb the story of Scottish sheep, followed by an excursion to the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park with its waymarked walks, cycle trails and picnic places. Afterward, journey on through the Trossachs via the Dukes Pass and the A821 to Loch Katrine where one can enjoy a cruise on the SS Sir Walter Scott or hire bikes to explore the scenic surrounds of Loch Katrine, including Stronachlachar (which can alternatively be reached from Aberfoyle on the B829 via Loch Ard, Loch Chon and Loch Arklet).

Alternatively, continuing on the A821, the visitor can wend their way past Loch Venachar toward Callander (visit the Rob Roy Centre) via Kilmahog where one can visit the Woollen Mill. A left turn at Kilmahog (a right turn takes you to Callander) brings the visitor to Kinghouse and Balquhidder where Rob Roy's grave is located in the churchyard.

Continuing on A84 from Kingshouse to Lochearnhead followed by the A85 through steep-sided Glen Ogle, brings the traveller to Lix Toll. Here, a right turn along the A827 affords a worthwhile visit to picturesque Killin by the Falls of Dochart and the close by Breadalbane Folklore Centre. For a scenic return, journey back to Lix Toll and along the A85 to Crianlarich where a left turn (A82) completes the circle to Loch Lomondside.
