The Stoneymollen Trail

Stoneymollen is a well known local walk, following a well used route over the hills linking the Firth of Clyde with Loch Lomonside.. The highest point on the route is just over 750', but if travelling Eastwards, from Cardross to Balloch, the gradient is not too extreme and the prevailing winds are in the direction of travel.

Just outside od Cardross, the grade "A" listed building of St Mathews' Chapel, dating from 1486, has been restored and is still a place of worship.

The panoramic view South at the edge of the Plantation extends over the Firth of Clyde and Renfrewshire hills to Cowal in Argyll. On a clear day it is easy to see the jagged hills of Arran on the Western skyline.

Emerging from the plantation high above the Vale Of Leven and Loch Lomond, there is a view no less stunning than that to the West saeen earlier; dominated by the bulk of Ben Lomond and the spread of the loch scattered with islands. It is possible to follow clearly the Highland Boundary Fault across the loch via Inchmurrin, Inchcailloch (the two largest islands at the south end of the loch) and Conic Hill, above Balmaha.
